DESCRIPTION

“Steel Runner” is a school project which was carried out with a number of “combo” games. We came across “ Dead Space ” and “ Ghost Runner ”. We mixed the horror and space opera of Dead Space with the fast-paced, FPS gameplay of Ghost Runner.

Intention

This exercise consisted of mixing two games, we got Dead Space and Ghost Runner. The difficulty of this exercise was for once not a problem of time but of compatibility of gameplay where Dead Space shines in it’s restricted and suffocating level, Ghost Runner excels in great space and player speed. To counterbalance this problem at the level of level design I wanted to separate the level in 2, the first a large area of container landing inside a cargo ship, here the goal was to succeed has created a pleasant level for Ghost Runner gameplay but keep the suffocating atmosphere of Dead Space thanks to the little brightness present and the noise of monsters inhabiting this part of the level and therefore no longer play on a psychological horror. Then the second part takes place in the crew quarters, Thus restricting the player on his movements and exposing him directly to monsters in the open because the neighborhoods are very small and very well lit.
